The adventures explained

Perhaps you are one of those people who naturally “just know” what adventures involve but if you are not, never fear. Read on to find out just what each adventure is and what they might entail.

Rock Climbing: The chance to experience this exhilarating sport at BMAC can occur both in indoor and outdoor settings. Our indoor rock wall is right next to our main lodge and presents challenges for those who have never tasted the joy of climbing as well as for folks who are ready for a little more complexity. You will become familiar with a few climbing techniques and how to be an efficient and safe belayer (climbers’ anchor person and safety line). Outdoor climbing offers no limit to the amount of challenges. From climbs to suit the beginner, to verticals that hold no limit, the challenge at BMAC is as diverse as the environment we live in. We can’t wait to get you climbing high!

Caving: Going underground in the Okupata limestone caves is an awe-inspiring experience. With an inner cave stream, glow-worm displays, and optional tight squeezes owning suggestive names like the Toaster, Mailbox and Panini maker, it is a hole in the ground not to be missed!

High Ropes Course: The course in BMAC’s back yard is a test of commitment, teamwork and courage. With our indoor rock climbing wall, the giant’s ladder, the vertical play pen and the towering leap of faith, it is a challenge just waiting to be taken on and conquered. Let your confidence blossom as you give these beauties a try!

White Water Rafting: In our amazing environment, we are blessed to be situated among a host of brilliant rivers of varying grades. Enjoy the sound of water dripping gently from your paddle as you take in the scenery down a more leisurely grade 2 and then your own heart drumming as you ride the roar of rushing white water in higher energy grade 3. We use paddle rafts so everyone participates fully and shares in the thrills of negotiating a raft through whatever the river brings your way. Whatever floats your boat, there is something to suit your needs at BMAC.

Gorging: Years of river erosion has carved out amazing chasms through high moss covered rock walls through which we take you on the gorging journey. It may involve swimming, jumping, and spectacular scenery!

Mountaineering: The quest to reach the top of the world has long been something humans have been striving for. Are you ready for New Zealand’s triple challenge? With 3 fantabulous mountains only 30 minutes away from where you are sleeping at BMAC, we can offer a cluster of mountains at their best. Tongariro, Ngauruhoe, and Ruapehu all pose diverse challenges with greatly rewarding vistas.  Want to try an overnight stay in a snow cave? Come to BMAC to experience this and more!

Abseiling: Karabiner, figure 8, static rope. All terms you will become quite familiar with during your abseiling experience with BMAC. After a short hike to the top of one of our numerous abseils, BMAC staff will secure the lines and equip you with the necessary gear and info to complete your descent in safety and style. For the ultimate MacGyver cliff hanging moves, you must give abseiling a go!

Canadian Canoeing: meandering down an undulating river surrounded by high cliffs and spectacular scenery or cruising across a placid lake with mountains showing of nearby. Canadian Canoeing can be as strenuous or as relaxing as you desire whilst you dip your paddles into some of the amazing lakes and rivers we can access in our surroundings.

Kayaking: Learning the skills to manouvere yourself on still or moving water in your own craft is what kayaking is all about. We can provide a first taste for those who are new to this fantastic sport, or a multi-day NZQA qualified course for those looking to build up their abilities.

"Blue Mountain Adventure Centre provided me with an opportunity to learn while doing some of the most exciting outdoor activities available"
Sam - Camper

"Our relationships with the youth since Winter Peak have been more like a family. The week away played a huge part in this happening. If you can imagine us as a brick house, Winter Peak played the part of the cement in bringing us all together."
Myles - Youth worker

"...thank you for an extremely wonderful day. I have never been on a trip like that, never even considered I could undertake such a journey. Kent was a great leader, patient and encouraging while Billy, who was our raft guide, was a lot of fun and put up with our tom-foolery. If it was your intention to entertain, inspire and cultivate comradery then consider yourself successful."
