Adventure Activities

We offer a wide range of activities, with cost effective options. We can cater for all ages, from six to sixty years old (or over!). Here’s a taste of the range of adventures and spectacular sites that BMAC has to offer.

Whitewater Rafting

Rafting

We have access to grade two and three rivers with wild rapids to suit every group. We have small, medium and large rafts that can take two to seven clients in each raft. We have qualified and skilled guides who can guide your raft down the river or you can self guide your raft under supervision if you’re really keen! We use the world famous Tongariro river and some of the lesser traveled natural beauties that surround us as well. All safety gear will be provided and you will get a white water briefing so you are in the know for everything rafting related.

Mountaineering-group

Mountaineering

The Maunga around here are famous for all the right reasons. They are stunningly beautiful, awe inspiring to be on and sometimes unpredictable with their weather. We treat the mountains with the respect they deserve and also enjoy all they have to offer. You can climb on Mt Ruapehu to behold the amazing views and possibly see Mt Taranaki, Mt Ngauruhoe and Mt Tongariro all in one panoramic spin from the right spot up there. If you want to learn how to use an ice axe, crampons, dig a snow cave, find a buried avalanche transceiver, climb snow and ice, or just slide and snowball fight we can help with that. These are all things we love to do and share with those that join us.

Whitewater Rafting

Rock Climbing

Rock climbing can happen all year round. If it is raining, we have our custom built indoor wall that we can use to hone and develop skills. Then we can transfer outside to Mead’s Wall or Whakapapa Crag to climb some real rock. We can also set up a traverse that will take you over the top of Mead’s Wall, giving you areas of climbing and scrambling with some amazingly exposed places to really get the blood pumping. Spectacular views are everywhere on the real rock experience.

Whitewater Rafting

Canyoning

Canyoning takes us into the places that you have always wanted to visit as a kid but were always told to stay back from the edge. Waikoko canyon has swims, jumps, climbs and lowers and it really is an exciting and spectacular place to visit. We also have other canyons that we use depending on group ability and passion for getting amongst it.

Whitewater Rafting

High Ropes

We have a high ropes course on site here at BMAC. It sits ready and waiting for you to climb up to the beam or islands. If you’re not too keen on the climbing up we can set up the big swing, your group can pull you up and you get to release yourself for a REALLY BIG SWING. This is where you find out if you scream out loud or with your inner voice! The big swing is loved by our groups and is always the thing they want more of.

Whitewater Rafting

Canoeing

We can go for a canoe on Lake Otamangakau or a trip down the world famous Whanganui river. Canoes can go to great places and are great spaces to get there in. We can strap two together to make a super stable raft as well. Have lunch on the water or paddle to an overnight camp site. Canoeing can offer it all.

Whitewater Rafting

Caving

Okupata caves is a great place to explore if you have never been caving before, or have done a little bit and are keen for a challenge. It has squeezes, crawls, slides and water. We can spend half a day down there and not cover everything there is to do. It is a great place for groups to learn the value of help and support in a very different environment to where they normally hang out.

Whitewater Rafting

Tramping

There is no end to the places that you can go tramping and we are fortunate to have a selection of the finest areas close to us – Tongariro National Park and the Kaimanawas. We can do multi day trips for that authentic kiwi camping experience or just spend a day to see some spectacular sights.

Bush Skills

Did you know whio are rarer than kiwi? And you could spot some here! Learn to identify local flora and fauna and impress your friends with your dazzling array of facts. We can tailor a day to suit you, from learning how to cross streams and rivers safely, to back-country navigation skills, building a shelter, starting a fire and making some delicious bush food, to honing your bushcraft skills, whittling away creating some unique and useful items. Be amazed at what you discover on an epic scavenger hunt. There is endless fun and games to be had in the bush! Come explore the wild side of Raurimu.
